Sens preparing a firesale?

Canadian Press - The Ottawa Senators, coming off a season in which they won the Eastern Conference and lost to Anaheim in the Stanley Cup Final, have been one of the NHL's most disappointing teams this year. The Sens, through 16 regular-season games, are an uninspiring 6-6-4, and that has led to the suspicion that coach and general manager Bryan Murray will prepare a firesale if things don't turn around. Murray rebuked those claims on Tuesday.

"Look, it's too early to be talking about any kind of sale. We don't like to make excuses in that locker room, but a guy like [captain] Daniel [Alfredsson] would be integral to any team. He's a world-class player and leader. We'll see how things go when he returns," said Murray.

After speaking on Alfredsson, who is out with an injured knee, Murray put the onus on the remainder of his team.

"We have a lot of guys in here who have done a lot of great things in this league, whether with us or other franchises. This is up to them, period," Murray stated.
